What We Learned: Kansas City Equity in Schools Cohort 2
After the success of our first equity in schools Kansas City cohort, and in partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Beloved Community launched our second Equity in Schools (EIS) Kansas City Cohort in July of 2021. The Beloved Community Equity in Schools Cohort Model is a nine-month intensive experience where organizations participate in four components: 1) Organization-wide Equity Audit, 2) Eight intensive Capacity Building Content Sessions, and 3) Individualized Coaching, and 4) Drafting a three-year Equity Work Plan.
What We Learned: Indianapolis Equity at Work Cohort 2021
In January 2021, Beloved Community launched their first Equity at Work cohort in Indianapolis, IN. By the time this cohort launched, Beloved had been exclusively offering their consulting and facilitated services virtually amidst the global pandemic. The dual pandemics of systemic racism and COVID-19 did not disrupt these organizations from fully committing to: (1) eight 4-hour virtual cohort sessions, (2) individualized organizational consultation, (3) participating in an organization-wide equity audit, and (4) drafting a 3-year Equity Work Plan.
What We Learned: Kansas City Equity in Schools Cohort 2021
In partnership with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, Beloved Community launched our inaugural Equity in Schools (EIS) Kansas City Cohort in January of 2021. We were joined by eight participating organizations, 4 large districts and 4 charter networks; these organizations include: Shawnee Mission School District, Liberty Public Schools, Blue Valley Schools, Lee’s Summit R-7, Academy for the Integrated Arts, Brookside Charter, USD 232, and Citizens of the World Charter School.

Working in diversity, equity and inclusion is complicated. There are the day-to-day difficulties: dealing with the delusions of white supremacy/supremacists, subconsciously looping a list of every injustice in the world, and constantly being called upon to “talk to” that family member, but we know that comes with the territory.
Lessons Learned at CRT Camp.
For a week in August, the African American Policy Forum (a think tank headed up by one of the most influential antiracist educators and critical race theorists in the country, Dr. Kimberlé Crenshaw) hosted CRT Summer School to help folx across sectors understand the politically-motivated, unwarranted attacks against truth-telling in K-12 schools and institutions of higher education.
What We Learned: New Orleans, LA Equity in School Cohort 20-21
In July of 2020, amidst dual pandemics in this country: both COVID 19 and systemic racism, Beloved Community launched our New Orleans Equity in Schools Cohort. This cohort marked our first all-virtual series in which we led eight synchronous sessions on Zoom.
What We Learned: Memphis, TN Equity at Work Cohort 2019-2020
In August of 2019, Beloved Community launched our Memphis Equity at Work Cohort which concluded in February of 2020. This 6 month series included 8 Memphis non-profit organizations: All Memphis, Building Memphis, Community Foundation of Greater Memphis, Arts Memphis, The Commons, Innovate Memphis, Momentum Nonprofit Partners, The Orpheum.

At Beloved Community, we are committed to implementing tangible, measurable systemic change at work, at home, and in schools. Our city, state, and nation are facing an unprecedented crisis with the onset of this global pandemic.
What We Learned: New Orleans Equity at Work Cohort 2019.
In February of 2019, Beloved Community launched our New Orleans Equity at Work Cohort. This 6 month series included 4 New Orleans non-profit organizations: Live Oak Wilderness Camp, Propeller, First Line Schools, and Louisiana Public Health Institute.
